Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art United States of America

Many people are familiar with Eric Carle’s distinctive brush strokes and papercraft from picture book classics such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Carle recognized that children and adults appreciated the surreal fantasy worlds and the whimsical approach to slice-of-life that characterizes children’s books. To further appreciation of the unique work in children’s book illustration, Carle founded the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. In addition to honoring the technical skill and originality of picture book illustrators with traditional art collections, the museum also features visits from costumed picture book characters.
