For a trip to an era of myth and discovery, visit the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park in Saint Augustine Florida. The park was built on the first Spanish settlement in Florida, and was inspired by Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon’s quest for the mythical fountain of youth. Modern visitors can enjoy a refreshing sprinkle from the fresh-water well built over a natural spring on the park grounds. Visiting the park is like taking a trip back to sixteenth century colonial Florida, complete with cannon firings, Timucua village reconstructions, blacksmith exhibits, and a reconstruction of a colonial church. For lunch, visitors should sample oysters, chowder, chicken wings and other traditional southern delights at the Five Flags Cafe located inside the park. The park also houses 30 wonderful peafowl, including two rare all-white peacocks.
