Jökulsarlon Black Sand Beach in Iceland Iceland

The Jokulsarlon park is best known for its frigid seas and beautiful white glaciers. However, another favorite feature of this beach is in the unusual black sand on the beach. The beach can be accessed by taking the ring road from Jokulsarlon and crossing a bridge. The sea is a misty gray, beautiful with the dark black sand. The black sand comes from fragments of volcanic lava that washes in alongside clear shards of the icebergs in the lagoon. Seals and birds can be seen in the lagoon. Even better, you may also be able to see an aurora in the night sky.
