Caño Cristales translates to “Crystal Spout,” but this Columbian river is truly a rainbow delight. The blood-red river weeds that bloom and wrap tightly around the river bed rocks cause the the river to transform into bright pinks and reds every July. The river also has turns other fantastic colors, including black, green, blue and yellow. Even more interesting, the river is filled with multiple “giant’s cauldrons,” deep sinkholes formed by rocks and pebbles traveling along the rapid currents. Travelers to Columbia will enjoy this dream-like river, but be aware that it loses its wonderful colors at the end of November.
