Texas makes people think of oil, cowboys and the wild West, but many cosmopolitian travelers enjoy the hidden art scenes in Houston and other large cities. One of the crown jewels of the Houston art scene is Texas Art Asylum. Run by two local artists, the Texas Art Asylum accepts donations of all kinds of knick knacks and scraps. Doll heads, lost buttons, chandelier pieces, vintage fabric and magazines, and other assorted pieces are accepted by the shop. It may seem like junk, but the asylum strives to teach guests to appreciate the beauty in forgotten toys and scraps. Guests can sign up for work shops on how to make collages, mosaics and other items from the unique pieces of the asylum.
