Beijing’s Three Shadows Photography Art Center is China’s first modern photography gallery. This space began as a car repair shop, which was re-designed as an art space by exiled Chinese artist and political dissident Ai Weiwei. The art space is currently partnered with the French Les Rencontres d’Arles Photography Festival and also supports international artists with residency programs, nourishing Beijing’s growing arts scene with diverse influences. Today, browsing the gallery feels like stepping into another world, with mind-bending layouts and unique perspectives on a variety of subjects.
