Most tourists flock to Los Angeles to rub elbows with America’s richest and most famous movie stars, as well as to enjoy a carefree time strolling down the beach or the big city. However, Los Angeles is also famous for the strange and mysterious La Brea tar pits. Scientists have studied the pit for decades due to the well-preserved fossils of prehistoric animals that got trapped in the sticky, heavy tar and sank into a murky doom. More recently, criminals have attempted to use the pits as an easy disposal for incriminating evidence that simply needs to disappear quickly without hope of recovery. There is no other place in the world entirely like these surreal, murky pits.
